Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site Storied Island Tour Offering (July 1 - Sept 15 2023)

Storied Island Tour Offering

About this experience

The Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site brings you back to French colonial life from 1713-1758. First the home of the Mi'kmaw people, the 18th century brought French, English, Basque, Scottish, and African people to its shores.

A visit today offers an experience that stimulates all of the senses. You'll hear traditional music filter through windows and wooden carts wind through the gravel street. Follow your nose to fresh baked bread and savour 18th-century style meals*. Feel the weight of soldiers' woolen coats, the swish of ladies silken skirts, and the thunder of muskets and cannons as the scent of gunpowder hangs in the air.

Be immersed in another place in time. Stroll alongside the "citizens" of historic Louisbourg, who bring to life the leisurely activities of the rich and the hardworking fishers, soldiers and servants. Take a closer look into this rich history through exhibits, artifacts, and tours**, or truly step into the past with one of our special programs.

As the largest historical reconstruction in North America set on the doorstep of the Atlantic Ocean, this site truly offers something for every traveler.
